When updating these pages last Saturday, I had the most strangest feelings I’ve had for a long long time – actually I think the last time was back in 1993 when I listened to some ambient techno on “Avaruusromua” radio show of then Radio Mafia and I could visualize bouncing balls and silk ribbons wave in the rhythm of the music – like falling throught the rabbit hole or trying to touch the person on the other side of the mirror.
How did this happen? I started to break down my reasons for liking open or free source so much and tried to remember how I’ve classified myself in the past. I remember back in junior high and especially in high school I read a lot of Mohandas Gandhi and Buddhism related books. I wouldn’t be a true nerd if I didn’t say that Star Wars had also some kind of an impact on me too. I remember referencing to my ideology as “christian-buddhist-gandhist” which I still think is kinda close, but you can sum it into “pantheologist”.
The main idea of my point of view is that there’s the Spirit of the universe, or “Force” or whatever you want to call him/her/it, and it surrounds us all, is inside us all, is everywhere we look into, can be talked and communicated with everywhere, anytime, anyway. What ever you do, you’re in contact with it and so it is also aware of everything you do. When you hurt it, you hurt yourself, when you make good things, you’re making good things to it and to yourself as well. Kinda karma thing.
Q:So how does this compute to you being a person promoting open and free source where ever possible?
A:Because I feel that when I help somebody, I get something eventually in return. Because I feel that there is very few types of information that need to be private and classified. Because I think information is the key to every problem. Because I think that *we together* are stronger than *we individually*. Because I think that you don’t have a right to complain about something that sucks unless you’re ready to do something about it. Because I think that if something is wrong and the effort of trying to improve it isn’t uncomprehencively huge, you should. Because I think it’s a sin if you know something and someone would use the information, and you don’t tell it to anyone. Because I think I love you.
