[11:21] <@Myrtti> but anyways, I guess the parking lot idea that I had yesterday was pretty good
[11:22] <@Myrtti> I’m trying to install OEM Ubuntu on some laptops at work in such a way that I could use them to make an image to install Ubuntu on other machines
[11:24] <@Myrtti> did a script that handles samba mounts, and tried to make a launcher that uses sudo, and I was thinking about how to make sudo use -u ${USER} for like four hours
[11:24] <@Myrtti> then I realized that it doesn’t have to use that, because -u 1000 would suffice
[11:24] <@Myrtti> The idea came when I was looking at the parking lot
[11:24] <@Myrtti> because the spots aren’t reserved by name, but by numbers
[11:24] <@XXXXX> what was the parking lot idea like?
[11:25] <@Myrtti> you see, people come and go, but the companies have reserved parking lots for them by the numbers, spots from 1 to n are reserved for company X and from n+1 to m to company Y and so forth
[11:26] <@Myrtti> and I realized that the first user gets the uid 1000 in Ubuntu
[11:26] <@XXXXX> I think it’s the same in Debs
[11:26] <@Myrtti> so I can say the launcher to use sudo with the parking spot number instead of saying use the parking spot of J. Doe
[11:27] <@Myrtti> the idea came when I was talking in !assembly about hares and how there’s this one hare that likes to eat the grass from certain parking lot
[11:27] <@Myrtti> afterwards I felt so f***ing great
