A fire consumed many houses in the wooded area my family live in last night, stopping about 1.5 km from the house. Local police broke into the house to save the dogs. We were not informed, and worried more about the animals then houses and things.

It is always hard to lose a pet. Our connections to them are beyond what makes sense given the understanding that they must have of us and our lives.
