Computer skills
I’m accustomed user of Windows and I use Linux as my operating system on my computer and home file server. I know the basics of Java, PHP, LaTeXe2 and SQL, and can set up an Apache2 webserver with virtualhosts and SSL; and can set up Web publishing systems built on LAMP stack. I can do webpages using (X)HTML and CSS standards and both update and maintain suitable graphics for the site from both photographs and clean slate. I can debug Linux applications and translate them using GNU/Gettext. I can set up a small LAN. I can install components to a desktop computer if necessary.
I’ve been online in the Internet since 1994, have used IRC since 1996, written to newsgroups since 1996, have had my own homepages since 1997, owned a computer since 1998, mobile phone since 1999 and used Linux since 2000.
Me in FLOSS
I’ve been Ubuntu user since February 2005 and quickly became active in Ubuntu Suomi (Finnish LoCo team) being the first moderator of the discussion board and the main contact person between Finnish Linux User Group, Finnish Centre for Open Source Solutions (”LUG for companies”, my former employer) and Ubuntu Suomi. I currently work from home in a Finnish open source company Nomovok.
My participation has varied from triggering the involvement of FLUG and Ubuntu Suomi in Assembly’07 (a Finnish demoscene/LAN party), to being an operator on the main IRC channels of the Ubuntu community. My participation in making Ubuntu rock was acknowledged in June 2008 when I became Ubuntu member.
I am interested in the audio player Exaile, terminal emulator Terminator and task manager Do, and have partially translated them into Finnish. I am also fighting a feature request battle with the developer of Gwibber to add Gettext support so that localisation would be possible. I am also interested in Maemo Internet Tablets, microblogging platforms, women in ICT & open source and open solutions in education.
I’m intrested in open content and have been an active participant in the Finnish Wikipedia, was an adminis trator for a year and am currently member of the Finnish Arbitration Committee.
